Anytime Jay Z and Notorious B.I.G. are the topic of discussion people listen. And sometimes the best stories about the past are told by the ones around the big guns who witnessed it all happen.
Recently sitting down with Vlad TV, Mafia Dons (formerly known as Junior M.A.F.I.A.) talked about one of the most legendary collaborative records to ever hit wax, “Brooklyn’s Finest.” The trio was asked about the competition between the two big time New York emcees and replied that there was definitely a competition going on at the time.
“It was a friendly competition,” Lil Cease said when asked about the creation of “Brooklyn’s Finest.” “[It wasn’t like] they were sitting there battling each other but they both were sitting in the corner and they was writing they joint bar for bar. At that time they were going at each other but at that time they going at each other.”

Mafia Dons were also asked about being in the studio with Biggie and Jay and whether any other artist’s vibe matched theirs.
“Only Jay, besides B.I.G. it was Jay,” Banger said. “Jay was the only one that gave off that vibe like B.I.G. ’cause Jay’s witty and funny just like how B.I.G. is. They cut from the same cloth.”
“Brooklyn’s Finest” was released in 1996 as the third song on Jay Z’s debut album Reasonable Doubt. It wasn’t the first time the two had met as Jay and B.I.G. met previously on the video set for “Dead Presidents.”
