Vince Staples, who released his Shyne Coldchain 2 mixtape in March, says that his friendship with Earl Sweatshirt led to his meeting a future collaborator.

“I linked up with Mac Miller because Earl went to his house to give him beats,” Vince Staples says during an interview with Pepsi Pulse of his Stolen Youth mixtape collaborator. “I introduced myself, and he was like, ‘Yeah I know who you are,’ and I was like, ‘That’s cool.’ He asked me why I don’t make more songs and I told him I didn’t have any beats. He was like, ‘Alright, I’ma come over next week and make some beats.’ He hit me up, came over and we made the mixtapes in like, three or four days. We just cleaned it up over the next couple of weeks when we had time. Mac is my bro. That’s one of my good, good friends.”

Another connection was No. I.D., who helped the Long Beach, California rapper land a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings and worked with him on Shyne Coldchain 2.

“I was working with No I.D. since he’s on Def Jam and what not,” Vince Staples says. “He was a big part of that deal. He asked me if I wanted some beats and I said ‘Yeah,’ so he gave me some beats and we made some songs to the beats.”
