Nicki Minaj’s acceptance speech and her dancing to Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” at the BET Awards Sunday (June 29) were deemed as disses toward Iggy Azalea.
The YMCMB rapper said on Twitter today (July 2) that others are taking her speech, which included her saying, “What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it,” as a slight toward Azalea, who has been rumored to use a ghostwriter, according to a Pitchfork story.
“The media puts words in my mouth all the time and this is no different. I will always take a stance on women writing b/c I believe in us!” Nicki Minaj wrote on Twitter today.
In another Tweet, the Queens, New York rapper says that women can be capable lyricists. “I believe we’re smart enough to write down our own thoughts and perspective, just like the men do. I’ve been saying this for 5 YEARS.”
