Jon Connor, who is from Michigan like Eminem and Proof, recently spoke about the D12 emcees’ influence and impact.

“We always put them up on a pedestal,” he says of Eminem and Proof in a Complex interview. “After [Proof] passed away, it’s almost like people become mythical figures after that. So, you make sure to respect that and you represent that every time you step on the stage or grab a mic.”

Like Eminem, Connor has signed to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath imprint, a fact he’s excited about.

“I’m living my dream,” Connor says. “This is all I ever wanted to do. To be on [Aftermath], that’s legitimately a dream come true.”

Connor says Xzibit introduced him and his music to Dr. Dre. Now signed with Aftermath, he says he appreciates the pressure that comes from rapping under Dr. Dre.

“I love it,” he says. “I’ve always been the type of person that works best under pressure.”

In October 2013, Connor announced his signing in a rhyme. “I cleared out all y’all that got in the way,” Connor rapped at the time. “And y’all knew that I was ill, but now my doctor is Dre.”
