Earlier this week, Long Island songstress Mariah Carey stopped by Power 105.1 to speak with The Breakfast Club about her stint on “American Idol,” alleged feud with Nicki Minaj, her relationship with Cam’ron, and more.

While addressing her judging gig on “American Idol,” Mariah commented on a highly-publicized feud with Nicki Minaj and revealed that it was a moment in her career she wishes she could “press delete” on.

“I don’t even remember what that was,” Mariah said. “That was a moment in my life that I want to press delete…If you really wanna know the truth of the matter. Really it was like I was hoping to be more of a mentor for the people there on the show, for the contestants. And I wanted to and I did give them input…when I could. Not like illegally. When it was alright I would just be like ‘Maybe if you want to incorporate’—like there were certain contestants that I was very upset when they would get—I think I can’t really say certain things, but whatever. Everybody else seems to say whatever they want to say. Well, just to make a long story short because it’s a long story. I wasn’t happy there because I felt like I couldn’t be real. And I thought it was gonna be a three person panel. And that would have been cool.”

According to Mariah, rocker Lenny Kravitz was initially tapped to be one of the judges on “Idol,” but was ultimately replaced with Nicki and country star Keith Urban. Mariah later stated that if she had known the producers were going to focus less on the contestants and more on the drama between judges, she would have passed on the job.

“Lenny was like ‘Let’s go. I heard you’re gonna do it. They wanna talk to me.’ And I felt like he had a certain amount of credibility as an artist,” she said. “As a rock star. And yet they chose to go a different direction, which felt very reality TV. And that’s not [me]…If I had known that there was another female that they planned on emphasizing and making it about jokes and laughs and whatever then I would have been like ‘Okay, do that and I’ll catch you guys next time.’”

During her conversation with The Breakfast Club, the singer denied rumors that she dated Cam’ron and also recalled poking fun of Roc-A-Fella Records founder Dame Dash for choosing his own attire.

“Never dated Cam’ron, but Cam’ron was my friend,” Mariah said before speaking on Dame. “That was classic I have the footage. We love Dame Dash, but he was talking about…No, I said ‘You still looking in the drawer?’ Cause I was like ‘I don’t even know where my sock drawer is. What are you talking about?’”

Along with Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban, Mariah Carey served as one of four judges during “American Idol’s” 12th season. That particular season of the Simon Fuller-created reality talent competition focused heavily on the alleged tension between both Mariah and Nicki.

During one audition for the show, the two musicians were involved in an exchange that ended with Nicki aiming this threat at Mariah, “I’m gonna knock you out” before adding “I told them, I’m not fuckin’ putting up with her fuckin’ highness over there.”

Neither Mariah nor Nicki have expressed interest in taking part in another season of “American Idol.”
