Although he came out a huge winner at this year MTV Video Music Awards, Jay-Z still feels like one award should have definitely been his. I believe I should have won video of the year. What Outkast did was wonderful. But that was last year’s awards.,” Jay-Z told the “Miami Herald” during the debut of his newest S.Carter sneaker at Foot Locker in downtown Miami. But Jay didn’t dwell on that as he urged young people to not only buy his new sneaker but make sure they are registered to vote.

Along with Jay-Z and the Hip-Hop Voices fans that came out to meet him were pleasantly surprised to see Memphis Bleek and Ludacris assisting in a voter registration drive. “Artists are seeing that our voices mean something and our voices are powerful and we should use it for more than just selling product,” Carter said. “If we can get people to come out and buy sneakers, then we can influence them to have a say on their lives.” Jay-Z wants unregistered voters to understand how their one vote really does affect their future. “I’m from a neighborhood that no matter what happens, whoever’s in office, nothing changed for us; we never felt that change; it never trickled down to where we were,” he said.

“But as you grow and you see things, you know that our people that started to make changes 50 years ago could not see what would be happening today. If they didn’t set forth that change that happened to me right now, then I wouldn’t be here. I know I can’t see it, but I know if I start it sooner or later, it may take 20 years, but there will be change.”
