Ice-T should understand the current situation of Sakinah Nabi, as both rappers have now caught a great amount of flak for politically-charged cover art on their albums.

Nabi’s single Project to Pyramids is being boycotted by several distributors because of its cover art, which shows a Palestinian boy throwing a rock at an Israeli tank, in front of the Al Aqsa Shrine in Jerusalem. But Nabi’s label, Marcion Records, is standing by her side. The label’s president Phil Rust, said that Nabi is free to express herself as she feels, and that commentary on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict does not constitute anti-Semitism.

The cover art was designed by Brian Paupaw, who has also worked with Apani B of the Polyrhythm Addicts.

For those who aren’t entirely familiar with the situation in Israel, this is a very, very basic breakdown. After World War II, the land which became Israel was given to the Jewish people, since it was their historic homeland. The problem is, people already lived there. Those people are the Palestinians, an Arabic-speaking people who are predominantly Muslims. Needless to say, they aren’t too happy about having their land taken, and there has been a history of violence and an intense hatred between the groups for a long time.
