Although he is in jail that hasn’t stopped Shyne from promoting his album and doing interviews, but the Clinton Correctional Facility has had enough. On Monday Shyne’s phone privileges were revoked and he no longer is allowed to do in-person interviews because authorities believe he may have violated several prison rules during the 100 phone calls he has made. Although all inmates’ calls are supposed to be written on a call lists, authorities believe that Shyne aka Jamal Barrow provided them with phony names of people that he called.
Under New York law inmates can not do business over the phone or call reporters that are not on a designated media list. “If a call is transferred to a cell phone, we have no idea who that call is going to or where that person is. Signs in the prison alert inmates that their calls are recorded and may be monitored”, James Flateau, a state Department of Correctional Services spokesperson said. “In a post-Sept. 11 world, we’d like to know who inmates are talking to.”
Shyne may also run into problems if the investigation shows that he did business over the phone before his latest CD “Godfather, Buried Alive” was released because state law allows victims of the crime to sue for compensation. A letter has already been sent to Def Jam seeking information on Shyne’s deal with them because of the New York Son of Sam law that prevents criminal’s from profiting from their crime.
