Rapsody, who released She Got Game in 2013, recently spoke with HipHopDX about the greatest lesson that she learned this year.

“Probably confidence and patience,” Rapsody said. “I was having a talk with 9th [Wonder] and another legend that was giving me advice. We were talking about longevity, and she said, ‘To have longevity in the game, you have to own it and be comfortable with yourself. Be comfortable in your own skin, and shine your light. Be humble, and be graciously confident.'”

Rapsody’s She Got Game release earned her a Runner-Up for HipHopDX’s “Mixtape Of The Year” honor. She Got Game marked an important moment for Rap, one she also discussed.

“This is something I’ve been working and building on,” she said. “But for people to finally be recognizing, it’s humbling. But at the same time, that’s what I’ve been working for and that’s what I’ve been staying up late nights working to have. I want to be a top-notch emcee and I want to be a top-notch emcee for a very long time. So it’s really humbling, and it makes you feel like all the hard work paid off. I feel like I can do anything.”

Beyond 2013, Rap also discussed the new year.

I’m definitely pushing She Got Game and you can expect videos,” Rap said. “I’m starting on the next album with my group Kooley High and after that, the follow-up to The Idea of Beautiful, my sophomore album. So it’s gonna be a busy year.”
