A $33,900 Hublot watch rapper Jay Z purchased for Yankees infielder Robinson Cano has resulted in the Brooklyn rapper being investigated by the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA). According to Billboard.com, Cano, who is currently one of Jay Z’s clients at the newly-launched Roc Nation Sports, received the pricey watch while celebrating his birthday in Belgium last month.

Cano personally thanked Roc Nation and provided fans with a picture of the limited edition Shawn Carter Classic Fusion by Hublot watch in an Instagram post made on October 22.

The gifting of the Hublot watch to Cano on behalf of Jay Z and Roc Nation may or may not be in violation of a MLBPA rule, which states that, “No Player Agent or Applicant shall provide, cause to be provided or promise to provide, any money or any other thing of value to any player, or any person related to or associated with such player, the purpose of which is to induce or encourage such player to use or continue to use any person’s or firm’s services as a Player Agent, Representative, or Draft Advisor.”

Additionally, any gift worth $500 or more that is given to a client must be disclosed to the MLBPA. It is currently unclear what disciplinary action or actions Jay Z may face if he did in fact violate the MLBPA rule with his gift.

Since its launch in April, Roc Nation Sports has recruited a number of athletes including Skylar Diggins, Geno Smith, Victor Cruz, and Kevin Durant.

Similar to Cano, Diggins also received a gift from Jay Z and Roc Nation Sports shortly after signing with the Roc Nation management branch. The Tulsa Shock player received a new Mercedes Benz after graduating from the Mendoza College of Business this spring.

After receiving her gift, Diggins tweeted, “I got 99 problems, but a BENZ ain’t one.”
