Detroit, Michigan’s Guilty Simpson and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Small Professor recently linked up to create a collaborative album, Highway Robbery. The project features 10 tracks from the duo with guest appearances from Boldy James, A.G., Elucid and Castle. Highway Robbery also features contributions from Statik Selektah and DJ Revolution.
Guilty Simpson has released several projects including 2007’s Stray Bullets, 2008’s Ode to the Ghetto and 2010’s OJ Simpson. This is not the first collaborative project Simpson has done. In 2010, he teamed up with Madlib for Before the Verdict. In 2012, he linked up with Apollo Brown for Dice Game. Small Profesor has released a couple of projects on his own. In 2008, Small Pro released Slowbus and in 2012, he released Gigantic Vol. 1.
Last year, Simpson spoke with HipHopDX about his collaborative projects with producers, saying he prefers to work with only one beatsmith over several.
“That’s what I like,” Simpson said. “Not to say I wouldn’t piece an album together with a gang of producers, but I just kind of like that sound; I like the theme. Some people don’t and say it sounds repetitive, but if you do it with the right producer that can give you phases and has different phases of production, it will sound good because it sounds like a body of work.”
