It seems Nelly isn’t the only one who represents Vokal. James Wilson and Cameron Caines are suing Nelly for wrongfully using the name Vokal for his clothing line. The two men state they are a part of a group called Vokal that they have been using since 1994 and signed a distribution deal with Universal Records in 1998 and retained the right to use their name alone, the same time Nelly signed to the same label.
They claim Nelly was well aware of the group before he began selling the clothing line that would grow to become a multimillion dollar company. The singers are petitioning for an injunction that would stop Nelly from using the name and several million dollars in damages. “Right now, since we don’t have an accounting of the profits, we can’t completely quantify the damages. Nelly’s people should have known about this since they were on the same label together”, Michael Santucci, an attorney for the singers told the Associated Press. Nelly has not yet released a comment on the lawsuit.
