Showing that hip-hop has no boundaries, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs received his first of many standing ovations on Monday in his Broadway debut of “Raisin in the Sun”. At thirty three years old Diddy had done just about everything from restaurants, fashions and maintaining one of the hottest labels, but hitting the stage in a theatre setting was something new to him.
“People may think they’re coming to see Puffy onstage,” Diddy told the Daily News, “but they’re getting Walter Lee Younger. What they’ll be getting is that we want to give inspiration – to our race, and others – with this work. Right now,” he said, “I’m giving 150% to the play”. Fans saw his intensity in portraying his role and greatly rewarded him. When the curtains came down, Diddy and his costars Sanaa Lathan and Phylicia Rashad received overwhelming applause from the star studded celebrity crowd. Fans of Diddy’s have already showed their appreciation for his new found job by shelling out 2.2 million dollars for advance tickets to the 10 week play before the play began.
“I was pleased with the play and Sean’s performance,” Ossie Davis who has also played Diddy’s role in “Raisin” said. “I know how difficult the role is and for him starting his career with it is bravery — and he did well.” To order tickets for “Raisin In the Sun” log on to www.telecharge.com.
