Eightball and MJG have continued to hold the south down releasing over seven albums since 1993. Fast forward eleven years and the rap giants are still heavy in the game preparing to release their ninth album Living Legends. Now on Bad Boy Records, the duo not only brings experience but their down south flava to P. Diddy’s ten year old label.
Having made fans out of some of today’s hottest rappers (Mobb Deep, Nelly, Ludacris and DJ Quik), Eightball & MJG has garner national success way beyond their hometown of Memphis Tennessee. “The difference between us and the other groups people would compare us with is that those groups grew up on us,” Eightball said. With their new single “You Don’t Want Drama”, the duo continues the down south party theme that is running radio right now. “It’s a get crunk, get buck, elbows, shoulder to shoulder, crowding the dance floor, pushing song…even P. Diddy got rowdy on the record.” 8 Ball said. “He was dancing off some South s**t. It was a sight to see.”
Other than Bad Boy’s in-house creative team production was done by Lil’ Jon, Jazze Pha, David Banner and Stevie J. A few of the guest appearances on the album will be Ludacris and UGK’s Bun B. Although they both experienced solo success Eightball & MJG has proved that their differences are what help keeps them together. “We grew up in a few blocks from each other. That weighs more than anything that could come between us. The friendship will be first,” 8 Ball explained. “At the end of the day if I ain’t got nothing in the world but my underwear I know that’s my friend…that’s what keeps us together, where we come from.” Living Legends in stores May 11th.
