Hip-hop will soon find a new television home. A new cable channel aptly titled RHN (The Real Hip-Hop Network) will soon be making its debut on a cable channel near you. With sponsorship from Public Enemy’s own Chuck D, co-founder of CNN Reese Schonfeld and a former Viacom executive David Houle the network hopes to promote and showcase hip-hop to the 18-34 audience that not always make it to the major networks( such as MTV & BET).

The founder of PHN, Atonn Muhammad said, “America only gets to see a fraction of what true hip-hop represents. We want to offer a grittier, more real representation.” With that gritter approach, RHN hopes to set its self apart from the two new cable channels that have just been launched, Hype( a joint deal between Bad Boy Entertainment and Playboy) and 1am (a venture between Universal Music Group, Endeavor, Shady Records and Vivid Video). RHN is currently in talks with Afeni Shakur about getting involved in something with the network.
