After surviving a major car accident last month, hip-hop legend is Rakim is still making plans to keep his music going. Although Rakim is no longer a member of Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label, that won’t stop some sort of partnership between the two. “Obviously we had creative differences. Dre wanted to go one direction, I wanted to go another direction”, he said to MTV. For a while we were trying to please both sides of the fences. Later on [we decided] it was best I went my way and let him finish doing what he do, but it’s still love. He’s been working in his mindset for so long, I been working the way I been working for so long, the chemistry didn’t really mix the way we thought it would.” Rakim is currently working on building his own label as well as a new album.
Rakim says Dr. Dre will have a track on his album. Rakim and Eric B. have filed a lawsuit against Def Jam for money they said they never received from the “Paid in Full” album; the two have made no plans for a reunion. “I’ll let Rakim do music, I’mma do TV,” Eric B. said. “Y’all can have this mess. But anything is possible, man”.
