The first-ever BET awards have come and gone and left a small but nonetheless interesting wake. While the production itself was a pretty standard awards show, you can always count on the Hip Hop crowd for some interesting moments. The NBA finals may be over, but rivalries are still running high. Shaquille O’Neil, who recently led his team to a second-straight championship, presented the award for best female Hip Hop artist to Eve. Eve accepted the award in a Sixers Allen Iverson jersey, reppin her hometown of Illadelph. Shaq took it professionally; he does have another ring after all.
Outkast were the only multiple winners on the night, taking home best male group as well as best video for Ms. Jackson. Nelly was voted best new artist, and Jay-Z as best male hiphop artist, and Lil Bow Wow won the viewers choice award. Whitney Houston received a lifetime achievement award.
