Public Enemy and N.W.A. have been included in this year’s nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The two groups join a gang of potential inductees including Kraftwerk, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Deep Purple, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Albert King, the Marvelettes, the Meters, Randy Newman, Procol Harum, Rush and Donna Summer.
To qualify for nomination, artists had to have released their first single at least 25 years ago. N.W.A. dropped its first single “Panic Zone” in 1987, while Public Enemy unleashed “Public Enemy #1” that same year.
The 28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony will take place at Los Angeles, California’s Nokia Theatre on April 18, 2013, and will be followed by a broadcast on HBO.
