As part of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music production company, Hit-Boy has been able to work on this month’s Cruel Summer extensively. That work has taken the producer/rapper to various places and it has also allowed him to grow as an artist. Hit-Boy recently spoke with HipHopDX about that growth, his work with Kanye West and his upcoming material with Kendrick Lamar.
“We got to do a lot of traveling,” Hit-Boy said when asked about his experience working on G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer. “We went to London. We went to Qatar and a few different places [to work on the album]. So, just the traveling alone was amazing. Then, having the opportunity to grow with Kanye [West] and learn from him is a surreal experience.”
Hit-Boy continued by explaining how Kanye West is a perfectionist, making sure everyone puts their best into every song, even if they have to redo a few things.
“You’ve gotta be fresh. You gotta be different every time,” he says of what he’s learned from Kanye. “He’s made me re-tweak beats. He’s made me rewrite verses and everything. It’s never right the first time.”

His work has also allowed him to work with emcees outside of the G.O.O.D. Music circle. One of those emcees is Kendrick Lamar.
According to Hit-Boy, his work with Kendrick will be “different.”
“Kendrick [Lamar], man. We’ve got a really crazy record together. He’s spazzing on it. It’s club. It’s radio. It’s Hip Hop. I’m hyped about that…He’s swaggin’. It’s different from Kendrick, for sure.”
