Almost a year to the day of Jam Master Jay also known as Jason Mizell’s senseless murder, the unsolved mystery has made the family take matters into their own hands. Looking for justice in the killing of the beloved third member of Run-DMC, the Mizell family has decided to hire a private detective and offer an additional reward for the arrest of the murder.

Jam Master Jay’s brother, Marvin Thompson told MTV, “Well, the police department is doing the best they can do. I figure a little bit more help won’t hurt. I want to be able to close this case this year hopefully. We’re still in communication with the police department, they’re still following different leads, but sometimes they feel like a cat chasing their own tail, running around in circles. Maybe they will come out and discuss something now. Whoever knows something, just come forth.”

In last weeks NY Post a report was made stating Lydia Hyde, a friend of Jay’s has told the police who the gunman was. The NYPD has denied the report. “I feel it’s a big waste of energy and time,” Thompson continued. “I feel like if somebody really has something to say, they need to just come forward and say what they have to say instead of [the press] throwing false hope to the family. The community wants this thing to be closed; we want this to be closed. All this false hope is just throwing a smoke screen.”
