After reuniting last year for the album The Promise, critically acclaimed Hip Hop collective Freestyle Fellowship continue a busy touring schedule. Good Life Café alums Aceyalone, Myka 9, P.E.A.C.E., and Self Jupiter will join Murs on August 16 as his “Through The Mic” series at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art continues. Breakstra will also join Murs and Freestyle Fellowship. “Through The Mic” curator, Murs, has previously spoken highly of both Freestyle Fellowship and LACMA.
“Freestyle Fellowship challenged peoples’ perception of what Los Angeles Hip Hop is,” Murs told HipHopDX, after the inaugural “Through The Mic” event. “Being in this very building is my most fond memory. Just seeing a painting ignited something in me. From there, I got into Anime, Japanese culture, Akira and all of these things. But in this building was the first Japanese art I encountered aside from “Robotech.””
Concerts will continue to take place on the third Thursday of every month. Thursday’s performance will begin at 8:00 pm, and the showcase wil continue through October 2012. General admission tickets are $15, and $10 for LACMA members. For additional information, or to reserve tickets visit http://lacma.org/freestyle.
