After helping with the resurrection of Interscope Records, creating Aftermath Records and introducing the world to Eminem, Dr. Dre is very close to inking a partnership with another major record label to do it again.
Dr. Dre is said to be deep into negotiations with Atlantic Records to begin a partnership for the career of a new artist by the name of Governor. According to the NY Post, the negotiations that have taken five months so far have been weighed down because all three record companies (Aftermath, Interscope and Atlantic) have been trying to find a position that they all can be satisfied with. The Governor, who industry insiders have said is a cross between “50 Cent and Marvin Gaye” was signed to Atlantic Records in 2002 and Dr. Dre heard his sound and “fell in love with the artist” the insider said. Although the deal is still in the works, Dr. Dre and the Governor are already in the studio working on tracks for his debut album that may be out as early as the beginning of 2004.
