Rodney King was found dead on Sunday (June 17) morning in Rialito, California.
TMZ reports that King’s fiancee found him dead at the bottom of a pool. Law enforcement sources responded to a call at 5:25 AM, and attempted CPR after removing King from the pool.
He was pronounced dead at 6:11 AM.
In April of 1992, a jury acquitted four Los Angeles Police Department officers of beating King after a high-speed pursuit, despite the fact that the beating was infamously videotaped.
Thousands of people in Los Angeles rioted over the next six days, resulting in 53 deaths and roughly $1 billion in damages.
King was 47.
