Taking an inside look at the hard road to hip-hop VH-1 presents the second installment of “Hip-Hop Babylon” on September 7th. Speaking on how large of a marketing machine hip-hop has become, this two hour special features interviews with KRS-One, Run-DMC, Naughty By Nature, Snoop Dogg, The Neptunes, Fat Joe, Queen Latifah, Nas Master P and the Wu-Tang Clan as they try to decipher hip-hop as a business.
During the program they also follow then up and coming star Joe Budden as he went through the grooming process before his single “Pump It Up” hit the air to touring around the country. Not only showcasing the upside of hip-hop, this special will also take a look at the downfalls of rhyming, crooked contracts, punch ups with the press, and fleeting fame. In the special Russell Simmons talks about how street life instead of skills have been an ill-fated draw for executives to sign new artists. They go back and say, ‘Oh, you used to be a drug dealer? That’s a good story. You used to do what? You killed who?” Again, the special airs September 7th at 9:00 pm. It’s a must see for hip-hop heads.
