Breaking helping to break the mold on the dirty south’s style of music, David Banner is preparing to release a chopped and screwed version of his album “Mississippi: The Chopped & Screwed Album”. Working to expand the chopped and screwed style David Banner worked with Michael Watts of the Swisha House to put together the album.

“Chopped and screwed is when a song is taken and the tempo is slowed down–that’s called screwed–and at the same time the lyrics and the beats are chopped up. I decided to do the chopped and screwed version of “Mississippi: The Album” to bring light to that art form. Chopped and screwed is another part of Southern culture, like crunk, it’s a form that that I fell needs to be exposed to a broader audience. The South has always offered revolutionary music, and I wanted everyone to experience all of what I am passionate about”. The style originated over ten years ago when the late DJ Screw who unknowingly created it when he played a album at a slower beat while making a mixtape.

“I got Michael Watts for the chopped and screwed album because I am a fan of his work”, Banner continued. “He is the #1 DJ for chopped and screwed and he’s part of the reason that a person can not only buy a chopped and screwed album in Houston, but in Germany. It’s that big and he’s that big,” The album will drop on September 9th on the SRC/Universal Records label. Look for David Banner’s next album “MTA2: Baptized In Dirty Water” to drop on December 23rd.
