Working to secure more young voters, The Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, Power 99 and the Mayor of Philadelphia have joined together to produce what could be the largest Hip-hop Summit thus far. DMX, Wyclef Jean, Cam’ron, Dead Prez, Redman, Method Man, Floetry, Musiq, Joe Budden and Miss Jade are just a few of the confirmed artist to participate in one of the hottest selling tickets around.
Also marking a possibly new tradition, participants who want to enter Temple University’s Liacouras Center have to register to vote. Record executives in attendance will be Irv Gotti, Lyor Cohen, Steve Stoute, Chris Lighty and Damon Dash. The theme of this Summit will be “The Power and Unity of the Street”, which speaks on the potential of youth to grow in leadership in political and economic empowerment through hip-hop culture. During the Summit a presentation of awards will be given to Will Smith (the
Lifetime Achievement Award), Damon Dash (the National Outstanding
Achievement Award) and Wyclef Jean (with the National Heroes Award).
“The Philadelphia Hip-Hop Summit represents the best of hip-hop and this national gathering of some of the leading hip-hop artist for the good purpose of encouraging our youth is a special blessing”, Dr Benjamin Chavis, President of the Hip-Hop Action Network said.
