After losing his campaign to become mayor of Miami-Dade County in Miami, Florida, 2 Live Crew’s Luther “Luke” Campbell is taking an issue with the Florida Department of Education to court over his right to coach high school football.
According to WCTV, the Department of Ed. Turned down the raunchy rapper’s application for state certification to coach football last fall. They cited his firearms charges and 2003 plea deal over a lewd performance as grounds for denial, explaining that he “has been guilty of gross immorality or an act involving moral turpitude.”
Campbell began an appeals process this spring, which last week went to the state Divison of Administrative Hearings. He was previously hired as a temporary assistant coach, but wanted certification to continue his tenure.
“There’s a lot that you haven’t heard,” said Michael Carney, Campbell’s attorney. “Contemporaneous with being the bad boy, he’s always been a real good guy when it comes to youth athletics.”
