Having made his conversion to Chasidism known to the Hip Hop community, rapper Shyne has struck up a friendship with fellow musician Matisyahu, performing on stage together last month in Jerusalem. The duo is now recording collaborations to appear on each other’s albums, with Shyne explaining what the companionship means to him.

“I’d say he was someone that I’d be there for anything he needs, and he has expressed the same for me,” Shyne told The Jewish Chronicle.

Shyne, who has been living in Israel for the past nine months under the name Moses Michael Levi, also stated that he spends 12 hours a day studying religion. In respect to the Jewish faith, Shyne will no longer swear in his music, forbid female dancers from his shows and music videos and adopt a life of celibacy.

“You know what? You know how much I love women, I’m going to be shomer habris [refrain from all sexual activity unless married] until this record comes out,” he explained.
