Def Squad rapper Keith Murray was released from a Connecticut halfway house after serving three years in prison. The rapper is no longer signed to his longtime label, Jive Records, and has struck a new contract with Def Jam Records.

Murray’s close friend and Def Squad cohort Redman accompanied the rapper to the Def Jam signing riding a scooter, telling employees in the office to “take care of his nigga.”

Meanwhile, the longtime Rap-A-Lot rapper and Def Jam South President Scarface, has inked a solo deal with Def Jam as well. His most recent Rap-A-Lot release was last year’s gold The Last of a Dying Breed. “I’ll be with Rap-A-Lot until there is no more Rap-A-Lot, so that’s forever,” Scarface said. “It was a way more serious power [at work]. If you notice, everyone that has anything to do with Rap-A-Lot has connections with the church. If [Rap-A-Lot CEO] Lil’ Jay is not donating a million dollars or buying vans for the church, he’s helping mothers bury their children. This was prayed upon.”
