Drake Dethrones Kendrick Lamar On Billboard 200

Drake and PartyNextDoor‘s $ome $exy $ongs 4 U has officially knocked Kendrick Lamar‘s GNX from the top spot on the Billboard 200.

The album, which is Drake’s 14th to top the chart, sold 246,000 equivalent units in its debut week on sale.

With the accolade, Drake now ties JAY-Z and Taylor Swift for being the solo artist with the most number one albums in the chart’s near 70-year history. Only The Beatles, with 19, have more.

Drake has now released 14 number one albums in 15 years while $ome $exy $ongs 4 U is PND’s first album to reach the summit of the Billboard 200.

It is also Drake’s third collaborative album to top the chart after What A Time to be Alive with Future in 2015 and Her Loss with 21 Savage in 2022.

$ome $exy $ongs 4 U picked up over 287 million streams across the week, the biggest streaming launch for an album since Kendrick’s GNX last December.

Meanwhile, GNX slipped back down to number three, selling another 136,000 equivalent units despite being released three months ago.

Despite taking the number one spot, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U comes in slightly below projections with mid-week tallies expecting the album to hit 250,000 units sold.

The collaborative project is also the fifth lowest-selling of Drake’s career (based on first-week sales) behind So Far Gone (73,000), Care Package (109,000), Honestly Nevermind (204,000) and Dark Lane Demo Tapes (223,000) and his second poorest full-length debut on the chart.

To add insult to injury, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U would fall short of Kendrick’s own post-beef album GNX, which opened with 319,000 units last November.

$ome $exy $ongs 4 U also helped Drake temporarily eclipse Kendrick for the most single-day Spotify streams by a rapper this year with 92.4 million.

Over on Spotify, it earned 56.6 million first-day streams, which is the second biggest debut of the year so far behind The Weeknd‘s Hurry Up Tomorrow.

It also made a big splash on Apple Music by breaking the all-time record for the biggest single-day streams for an R&B album on the streaming platform.

On the project itself, Drizzy appeared to reference his beef with Kendrick while also taking a shot at his longtime frenemy Joe Budden.
