Tech N9ne is the latest rapper to take the hot seat in an interview with eccentric journalist Nardwuar the Human Serviette. During their discussion, the two chopped it up about Just-Ice, Mac Dre, Blowfly and opening for EPMD in 7th grade from a contest.
“This was the first contest I won. I was still in high school and I won a rap contest to open up for EPMD and it fell on my graduation day. So I had to choose, and I chose to open for EPMD at the Kemper Arena,” he said. After that day, I knew what I was going to do for the rest of my life and I guess I made the right choice.”
He was also shown a video message from Blowfly, who insisted on a collaboration after learning that Tech was always a big fan. “’Rapp Dirty,’ man. Wow. That’s big, man,” he said. “That’s one of the first rap songs I’ve ever heard. Down in Wayne Minor, where I grew up in the projects before I moved into the 50s. This was one of the first songs I heard.”

The Strange Music rapper reflected on his friendship with Mac Dre before he passed. “Mac Dre, one of the homies man. I met him in K.C. at a strip club called Satin Dolls, and he came up to me, he was way taller than me,” he said. “I went on tour shortly after that and I guess he got into some stuff in Kansas City and he died in Kansas City, but his soul still lives on through us. We still do a shout-out to him on our stage every night, a song called ‘Bout ta Bubble.’ Everywhere I go, people are throwin’ up the fizz sign. Rest in peace, Mac Dre.
