A battle is currently brewing at New York city hall over whether to name a street in the Bronx after fallen rapper Christopher Rios- aka Big Pun. Pun died in February 2000 and since then his fans in the BX have collected 7,000 signatures and the support of city councilor Pedro Espada in an effort to get a local street named after him.
However, some councilors, including Mayor Rudy Giuliani, oppose the proposal because they say Pun’s lyrics are violent and misogynistic. Should the plan go through, 163rd St and Rogers Pl. would become known as Big Pun Place.
