Speaking out against the negative images that the rap game has been receiving, Ice Cube refuses to believe the thoughts of critics.
Ice Cube told the BBC he knows the idea of a east coast/west coast beef are no longer an issue as well as the untrue claims that Jam Master Jay’s senseless killing was because of drugs. That’s all it is – it’s entertainment. Do people want to go kill Robert De Niro, you know, when he does ‘Casino’ or whatever? It’s music… and I mean we don’t know the circumstances but even their music never promoted any kind of violence. Run DMC was not about that, Run DMC was about the art, not about the bling bling or the gangsterism. All that kind of stuff came after what Run DMC had established, which was the art, the poetry and the music. It’s just distorted right now. But right now there’s no beef in the air. If people got beefs it’s personal beefs with each other, but there’s nothing that’s coastal or bi-coastal about it.”
Ice Cube recently saw success with his movie “Barbershop” in theatre’s and will be releasing his third installment in the “Friday” movies later this year. Cube has also signed with Dr. Dre’s label to make another rap album.
