In a rare event, the planned concert in New York City didn’t turn out the way concert goers hoped. Missy Elliot planned to perform a tribute to the late R&B singer Aaliyah during her performance for the Vanity Fair Concert at Irving Plaza last week, although I don’t think it happened as planned.

Beginning her performance, Missy started with her new smash hit single “Work It” and allegedly forgot the words to the song. Supposedly she apologized to the audience and explained that it was still new to her. From there the evening supposedly didn’t get any better. During the Aaliyah tribute, Aaliyah’s actual dancers and band came out to help support the performance when Missy was said to forget the words to a few of those songs, including some that she wrote herself.

After a few more songs, Missy supposedly said “That’s our show, goodnight!” Missy apologized to the fans and threw an autographed shirt into the audience and the shirt was thrown back onto the stage. No word has been released on what was possibly going on behind the scenes. Missy Elliott’s new album “Under Construction” will be released on November 12th.
