Every day the newspapers and web sites are flooded with at least one rapper being arrested. The list recently has included Juvenile, Funkmaster Flex, and currently Public Enemy’s Flava Flav. However, Flav isn’t new to the police drama. Over the years he had fought and successfully won his battle with drugs. With a recently released group album and coinciding tour things should be all love.
Many may be wondering why Flav isn’t performing on PE’s current tour featuring Blackalicious and Dilated Peoples. Hip-hop’s greatest hype man of all time’s exclusion has to be a devastating blow to the group’s stage show. Unfortunately he was arrested and taken to jail just before the tour. He is now facing four years in jail for unpaid parking tickets. In addition, he had a suspended driver’s license. He was busted in the Bronx driving.
Flav went to court in the Bronx and had to deal with a hostile judge. The guards escorting Flav seemed to be having a ball mimicking him as headed towards the courtroom. Observers did not appreciate their attempts at clowning Flav.
During the hearing, his 4-year sentence was reduced to 1 year. In addition, Flav was credited with time already served therefore having to serve just another 9 weeks in jail. Ironically, his release is timed for him to get out just as PE gets off tour. He had just started working at Power 105 as a deejay and was putting himself in a much-improved financial situation.
