Bay area collective Ill Mondo has teamed up with Los Angeles based emcee Neal Rames for a 70’s inspired Hip Hop project. The thirteen track self titled album features Percee P of Stones Throw, Prince Po of Organized Konfusion, and Sean Price, as well as some of California’s local composers and arrangers.

Rames, who has shared the same stage with artists like Psalm One, Aloe Blaccand US Pros, teamed up with JRK of Ill Mondo on a 2007 joint project titled NR/JRK. The six track EP was well received, constantly in rotation on the college air waves. After the duo’s success, Rames decided to collaborate with JRK again, this time including the other half of Ill Mondo, Johnny Red.

While attributing musical influences such as Hip Hop legends DJ Shadow and Mobb Deep, JRK and Johnny Red of Ill Mondo combined their inspiration to create unique melodies similar to that of 70’s classic composer David Axelrod. Ill Mondo & Neal Rames was mixed and recorded on vintage music equipment, producing a rare composition of Hip Hop. The use of horn arrangements and a classic Hammond organ combined with drums and a guitar showcases the group’s talent for one of a kind production.
