Former rapper C-Murder (real name Corey Miller) cannot afford to pay for his conviction appeal. However, two lawyers will be helping him at no cost.
According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Robert J. Smith of the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute of Race and Justice at Harvard Law School and John Adcock of New Orleans have stepped up to guide Murder’s case toward a more favorable outcome.
Their first order of business is to prove Murder is indigent, which they believe is applicable in his case. Being declared indigent would subsequently allow him access to case records at no cost. “A declaration that Mr. Miller is ‘not indigent’ would compromise his right to appeal under state and federal law,” his attorneys said.
Being convicted this past August of second-degree murder in the death of Steve Thomas, C-Murder had planned on appealing the verdict but the $20,702 in case record fees was too much for him to pay off. According to C-Murder’s attorneys, the fact that the one-time No Limit artist is incarcerated, does not own a vehicle or real estate or have income or savings is proof enough that his situation should be declared indigent.
