Block Entertainment, which is responsible for breaking and boasting such artists as Yung Joc and Gorilla Zoe has partnered with Capitol Records for their next artist.
Now strictly a one-off partnership, the first Block artist pushed through Capitol‘s machine will be 23-year-old rapper Kollosus, whose as-yet-titled debut is tentatively scheduled for a spring 2010 release.
Leonard Brooks, SVP Urban A&R for EMI Music stated the deal reaffirms the labels push toward Hip Hop. “As we grow Capitol‘s urban roster, this association with Block Entertainment makes perfect sense.” Impressed by the young rappers lyricism, he continued, “We are excited to sign Kollosus as well; he has a skillful flow that reflects his years growing up in Atlanta and his Jamaican-born roots. He has a unique sense of street swagger with a global appeal.”
Content with the new platform for his entertainment label, as well as his new talent, Russell “Big Block” Spencer added, “As an emerging voice of hip hop, Kollosus promises to capture the attention of the discerning Hip Hop audience. The collaboration between Capitol and Block Entertainment is vital to introducing him to a wider audience.”
