Freddie Gibbs and the Griselda collective have formed a formidable partnership in recent years, with Gangsta Gibbs dropping several stellar collaborations with Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine and Benny The Butcher.
However, there appears to be a bit of tension brewing between Big Rabbit and The Butcher. During an interview with Brian “B. Dot” Miller for Spotify Greenroom’s weekly Hip Hop show Most Necessary: Live earlier this week, the BSF rapper dashed hopes of any future collaborations with Gibbs.
“Working with Freddie Gibbs came and went to be honest with you,” he was quoted as saying according to Spotify Greenroom’s Twitter. “It’s all love.”
Freddie Gibbs caught wind of the tweet and replied, “Came and went lol.” He later jumped on Instagram to issue a more pointed response to Benny’s comments.
“N-gga said ‘working with Freddie Gibbs came and went,'” the ESGN rapper said to the camera while laughing. “I know some other shit that came and went too, n-gga … Just keep my name out y’all mouth, man, when y’all talking to people who are doing interviews and shit. Just say ‘next question, man. I don’t want to talk about that n-gga, man.’ Just say ‘next muthafucking question.’ For real.”
Gibbs didn’t delve any further, but his “came and went” rebuttal was likely a reference to Benny The Butcher’s latest album Tana Talk 4, which dropped earlier this month.
Needless to say, a Freddie Gibbs and Benny The Butcher beef isn’t something fans want to see. “I don’t like this. Let’s reunite the band,” Miller commented on Instagram, while another user wrote, “Damn smh …both are 2 of my current top 5. I’m disappointed smfh.”
The bad blood between Freddie Gibbs and Benny The Butcher appears to have been brewing for some time. Last September Gibbs tweeted “it be hard for me to listen to n-ggaz after they got robbed”; months prior, Benny got shot in the leg during a robbery attempt in Houston.
The following month Freddie Gibbs tweeted “n-ggaz don’t put the cities they got robbed in on the tour dates” not long after Benny The Butcher announced The Burden of Plugs tour, which featured a show in Austin, Texas, but not Houston.
Then, in December, Benny let his own Twitter fingers fly when he cryptically posted several crying face emojis hours after reports surfaced that Gibbs allegedly took a beating from Jim Jones at a Miami restaurant.
Freddie Gibbs also butted heads with Westside Gunn in 2020 when the Griselda general one-upped a tweet from his manager, Ben “Lambo” Lambert, celebrating the greatness of Gibbs dropping Bandana and Alfredo within a 12-month span.
“In the last year I dropped FLYGOD IS AN AWESOME GOD, HITLER WEARS HERMÈS 7, WWCD, & PRAY FOR PARIS but n-ggas wonder why I be on shit MFS be scared to act like GRISELDA don’t exist,” Gunn wrote. “Conway just dropped 2 in a month, and I love Freddie he’s on my shit and he’s Fam but STOOOP IT.”
Gibbs later threatened anyone who spoke ill of his manager by saying he’ll “throw yo muthafucking fam off a cliff bitch” in a video posted to his Instagram Story.
In happier times, Freddie Gibbs and Benny The Butcher made a dynamic duo on “Frank Lucas” from Gibbs’ Grammy-nominated Alfredo album, followed by “One Way Flight” from Benny’s Burden of Proof project with Hit-Boy. There was even talk of the pair doing a full-length project together, Best of Both Worlds style.
During a 2020 interview with Bootleg Kev, Gibbs called Benny The Butcher “a dear friend of mine” and stated “I’m cool with them [Griselda] n-ggas” while downplaying the notion of a feud.
These guys troll each other online then get shot wondering what happened. Don’t make jokes off the next man misfortune. I got off social media because I didn’t want to get caught slipping like that. easy to be gangsta in the comments but no one has a spare life they can use if this one flatlines
I LIKE GIBBS MUSIC BUT HES SUCH A PIECE OF SHIT ON SOCIAL. Nz TALK TOO MUCH AND NEED TO DISCONNECT.
When the music ain’t hittin you have to resort to other methods to keep that buzz up. He ain’t recouped yet.
But gibbs music definitely dope.
“Gibbs didn’t delve any further, but his “came and went” rebuttal was likely a reference to Benny The Butcher’s latest album Tana Talk 4,”…. no I’m pretty sure he’s talking about Benny getting robbed of his chains.
Bruh, Gibbs acts like SUCH a clown on social media… this situation, the stuff with Akademiks, and back when he kept hounding Jeezy…. I like his music and been a fan for a minute BUT his social media moves make you view him differently smh
I feel that way with a couple of rappers I use to listen to growing up. When they’re constantly voicing their opinions on social media, they be looking like clowns
Big facts! Some of these dudes’ managers/agents need to tell them to stay off their phone and stay off the computer cuz you’re alienating your fan base…. Social media always has a away of letting you know who’s a goofball in real life.
Ever notice how Freddie Gibbs always seems to feud with people he worked with? Maybe…just maybe the problem is Freddie Gibbs.
Did he work with Jim Jones too dummy? Maybe…actually definitely you is just a jealous hoe ass ni**a.
Gibbs funny af on social media y’all takin him too serious ?
One time I went to a concert that had Raekwon, Freddie and a third person (can’t remember who it was) but Freddie got mad at the DJ for god knows what, came out, said “man, fuck this,” cussed the DJ out and walked off the stage without performing a single song. The other performers seemed to have no issue. This was also a makeup date because he had canceled last minute at the previous show. He acts like he be tootin’ too much.
I like both of their music a lot but I didn’t really like their songs they had together just a personal preference. One way flight and frank Lucas were average songs to me. So I don’t mind if they don’t work together but hopefully no love is lost.
I like both as rappers, but Gibbs has been so cringy online for years. He’s a grown man taking shots at dude online for months, the other guy says he’s done working with him and he goes off on that too. He went off on ak for way too long, and he stole Lil Nas X’s album cover and acted like nothing happened. I’ll listen to his music, I’m done paying attention to whatever he is in the headlines for. He’s too insecure after being ignored for so long that he tries too hard to be cool and in the limelight. What a clown
we had some issue of trying take over spots lol it would smarter take it two Detriot
I thought
Social media is Gibbs’ crack pipe, need to stay tf off of there and focus on what really matters
This situation needs to be fixed asap. Benny got washed by J.Cole on his own song so he maybe feeling some type way about collaborations but these two work well together.
Nah
Wow, so now you guys admit to Freddie Midds being a clown on social media? I’ve been saying this for months but stans didn’t want to hear it. You’re welcome.
I like both artists. Don’t even seen like a real beef i think just a misunderstand. Anyway hope they keep it hip hop…
misunderstanding
Crazy thing is Benny didn’t even get robbed for his chains…. They TRIED to but didn’t and that’s why they Shit him…
I’d hate to see Benny & Freddie have a Problem w/ each other, they Both Def on my Current Top5 rn, like they Insane. Hope Freddie don’t say no more clown shit, he need to stop diva’ing & stfu, it ended w/ “its all love’ the fuck else matters? & keep it in your dm’s, no need to make this public. Benny was just saying his Piece, he meant nothing by It
GIBBS DOODEE FOH ??
Said nobody. Ever.
This could spawn some awesome diss tracks I’m all for it just keep it on records
