Eminem’s ‘Music To Be Murdered By: Side B’ Gets The UFC Bag — & Slim Shady Is Bout It, Bout It

Eminem has been pumping out album after album since 1996 and managed to parlay that relentless work ethic into a diamond-selling career. In 2020, Slim Shady hasn’t slowed down, releasing his 11th studio album Music To Be Murdered By in January and Music To Be Murdered By: Side B just last week.

The latter boasted 16 new tracks in addition to the original 20 and featured Dr. Dre, Ty Dolla $ign, DJ Premier and singer-songwriter Skylar Grey, among others. Now, one of those songs is being used to soundtrack the upcoming UFC 257 rematch between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier.

On Tuesday (December 29), Shady tweeted ESPN’s trailer for the event, which features the song “Higher.” As clips of McGregor and Poirier’s first fight flash across the screen, Em raps, “Where am I supposed to go from here?/Really I have no idea/All I know is every time I think I hit my ceiling/I go higher than I’ve ever fuckin’ been.”

Rumors of a deluxe version of Music To Be Murdered By started floating around earlier this month but reached fever pitch when Dr. Dre affiliate Dem Jointz shared an Instagram post inadvertently revealing the project’s cover art. Sure enough, Music To Be Murdered By: Side B arrived on December 17 to the delight of Stans worldwide.

The project debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 — just behind Taylor Swift’s Evermore album and Sir Paul McCartney’s McCartney III  — selling over 94,000 total album-equivalent units in its opening week. In contrast, the original Music To Be Murdered By landed at No. 1 with over 279,000 total album-equivalent units sold.

Eminem's 'Music To Be Murdered By: Side B' Projected To End Record-Setting Billboard 200 Streak

Technically, Side B brought Eminem’s historic Billboard reign to an end. It marked the first time a project of his hasn’t debuted in the coveted spot since 1999’s The Slim Shady LP, which entered the chart at No. 2. Needless to say, Em still remains one of music’s best-selling artists of all time.

As noted the ESPN trailer, the Poirier Vs. McGregor 2 event goes down on January 23 at 10 p.m. EST.

    1. Infinite, sslp, mmlp, Eminem show and relapse are he’s only good albums! But 4 of them are classic albums! That makes him a legend!

    2. MTBMB side B is not a new album. It’s part of the original MTBMB. So the streak wasn’t broken. If you check billboard you will see. The album went from 199 to number 3. Which was the biggest gainer of all time and broke a record that stood for over 50 years. Check your facts…

      1. The streak is broken, as all eminems other deluxe albums he released all went to number 1, this is the first time.

        1. MTBMB has already peaked at #1, 48 weeks ago. Side B is part of that album. Billboard is not counting it as a new album. So how is the streak broken?

        2. Neither Relapse Refill or MMLP2 Deluxe went to number 1 and neither went to number 3 either! so MTBMB is the most successful deluxe he ever released…

          1. So odd how people in the information age chose to create their fake claims like they don’t realise that people can Google those to debunk them.

    3. Funny you guys try to knock it “it’s his first project to not land at the top spot since the Slim Shady LP”, but A) It’s a deluxe, B) Forgot to mention it’s also his first album to be released without a physical on day one. FOH!!!

    4. Many people sleep on relapse and refill. Forget the accents listen to the words. Those songs were lyrically insane. Becareful what you wish for, my darling, underground, stay wide awake, beautiful, deja vu just a few to mention that album was fire ?fire ? lyrically fuck the accents, the accents were still hot too. Anything eminem does is hot. He got on the trap beats and killed shit too. Eminem adapts to Anything.. he’s just not a club artist. It’s not his image. He’s never been. Yea he has a few that can be played in a club but still. He’s not measured by that. Just my thoughts.

    5. You don’t buy eminem album to “bump” !! He is not catered for clubs though he tries his hand in some occasions. He is a nerd who started to embrace his ‘Nerdy’ side. Side B is just about that. Book of Rhymes, Alfred’s Theme, These Demons, Tone Deaf – Not meant for average listeners. That’s one of the primary reason it wasn’t marketed to be an individual album.

      1. I bump Em’s albums! I can name countless tracks of Em that you can bump! The Ringer, Lucky You, and Unaccommodating still making my speakers go berserk!

    6. One of the weakest album of his career…I remember the time Em made great album…This era ended with the release of recovery and all its disgusting pop features…

      1. That’s your opinion in mine I think it’s great not only because of music hut the fact he is able to come up with lyrics about the current state of the world with covid so next time keep your thoughts to ur self

    7. Here we go again. Are we still talking about Dr. Seus again? The Cat and the hat rhymer! Green Eggs and Ham trash!!! Oh brother please!!!!

      1. Better than 85% of rappers today still. Rap is rhyme. All rappers rhyme. So wth you talking about? Superb lyricist

      2. And who do you listen to? Machine Gun Kelly? Tekashi 69? Rap is ryhming and Em is a ‘word bully, I verbally abuse verbs like they did somethin to me personally’. Lyrical genious and still killin it in his 40’s.

      3. First, it’s Dr Suess, not Sues. Second, since spelling isn’t your forte I doubt your insight into Eminem matters much either. Gerald your opinion does not matter in a box, it does not matter to a fox. I am Sam, Sam I am, I do not like green eggs and ham.
        Dr. Suess

    8. Em said it on Kamikaze’s Greatest track ”You set a mark too high when platinum sales are looked at as a failure” First of all, MTBMB went platinum even before the side b came out, second is deluxe editions never counted as albums and Relapse Refill/MMLP2 never brought the original albums to number 1 or even 3 so technically this was the most successful extended version he ever released. People love to hate on winners and can’t at least state facts while doing so…

    9. ” these bars are like covid,
u get em right off the bat,
      Infected with sars and corona,
Like U took a bite off of that,
It goes from martian to human,
      That’s how the virus attacks,
They come at me with machine guns (brrrrt!),
Like tryna fight off a gnat ……”
