Eazy-E’s Widow & Son In Legal Battle Over Ruthless Records

When Eazy-E passed away from the AIDS virus in 1995, he left behind a Hip Hop empire — Ruthless Records. On Tuesday (August 15), the N.W.A rap god’s widow and current owner of the imprint, Tomica Woods-Wright, reportedly filed a federal trademark infringement lawsuit against her stepson Eric “Lil Eazy-E” Wright.

Woods-Wright claims Wright and his business partner, Arnold White, are unlawfully using the Ruthless Records name for profit on their website, ruthlessrecordsinc.com.

The suit alleges White and Wright tried to trademark “Ruthless Records Inc.” in 2016, but the application was rejected due to its blatant similarity to Ruthless Records. It also says the duo is incorporated as NWA-LLC, which infringes on the N.W.A trademark.

Ruthless Records was founded by record executive Jerry Heller, Eazy and Dr. Dre in 1986. The label gave birth to albums like N.W.A’s  Straight Outta Compton, JJ Fad’s Supersonic and The D.O.C.’s Nobody Can Do It Better.

The Ruthless Records story was partially depicted in the blockbuster film Straight Outta Compton in 2015.

    1. The love of Mula is the root of all evil,Kyle I know u agree with me on this one and by the way why did u stop responding to my comments ?

      1. Money root of all EVIL ? But yet its one the first things they ask from you in church to be a good christian you must contribute some of that EViL..

    2. What artist are still signed to Ruthless? Its not like they put out new music. The whole catalogue is from 88-96 after E died that label has been non-existent for the past 20 years. Still eating off of Dr. Dre after all these years. Fuuck Ruthless!

      1. Nobody now but they weren’t eating off Dre as much as they were eating of Bone thugs n harmony, They have been non existent though but more like 15 years Bone Thugs were still dropping double plat albums in early 2000’s

    3. Yea but Ruthless is hers plain and simple…there’s literally no argument here. Just cuz he’s Eazy’s son don’t mean shit, Eazy left Ruthless to Tomica. She’s not gonna give dude the Bone thugs catalogue…her and Eazy worked hard to fuck Bone over, she gonna keep that shit. She don’t care about no step son…Tomica been ruthless long before his ass was around, pun intended

      1. Funny thing about it though is Bone Thugs survived that bad contract. She was on a power trip she had a opportunity to re do that contract that would have put them in position to keep them long term. Which would have meant more albums, tours, merchandising etc she would have been rich for life. Bone’s contracted ending that jetted to Interscope went platinum, Ruthless died and Tomicka went broke She F that up really bad. So in the Bone Vs Tomicka/Ruthless Bone thugs won that. Usually labels give artist bad contracts at the start and when it’s time to re up the artist is done all the washed up with no leverage to even get sign to another label, in Bone’s case they kept pushing and establish themselves as one of the greatest rap groups ever so when it was time to leave they sign to the hottest hip hop label Interscope, and Burned Ruthless down on they way out the door . Catelogues are not worth what the use to be especially in this era were music is free. It’s touring that brings in the money for legendary artist they do pretty good touring Tomicka ain’t seeing none of that money.
