J. Cole is definitely in album mode. After dropping off “Middle Child” on Wednesday night (January 23), Dreamville Records sent out a press release confirming Cole is currently working on his sixth studio album and follow-up to 2018’s KOD.
“In addition to J. Cole’s forthcoming album, Dreamville is in the process of completing three highly anticipated projects, to be released in the first half of 2019: Revenge of the Dreamers III, a collaborative project featuring Dreamville artists in addition to some of the most exciting artists and producers in hip-hop today, Shea Butter Baby, from fast-rising R&B singer/songwriter Ari Lennox, and Mirrorland, from boundary-blurring Atlanta duo EarthGang,” the press release read.
No further details are available on his solo album at this time.
Cole and the rest of the Dreamville camp recently wrapped up the Revenge Of The Dreamers III sessions. Rick Ross, T.I., Tay Keith, Curren$y, Vince Staples and Wale, among others are reported to be involved with the project.
That release date is also under wraps.
Plenty of speculation has come along with the release of “Middle Child.” Twitter believes Cole threw out a subliminal aimed at Kanye West and the drama with Drake.
“This watch came from Drizzy, he gave me a gift/Back when the rap game was prayin’ I’d diss/They act like two legends cannot coexist/But I’d never beef with a nigga for nothin’/But I’d never beef with a nigga for nothin’/If I smoke a rapper, it’s gon’ be legit.
“It won’t be for clout, it won’t be for fame/It won’t be ’cause my shit ain’t sellin’ the same/It won’t be to sell you my latest lil’ sneakers/It won’t be ’cause some nigga slid in my lane,” he spits.
Last August, Cole dropped the “Album Of The Year” freestyle, which coincided with The Off Season announcement. He also teased a project called The Fall Off on KOD’s album closer, “1985 (Intro To The Fall Off).”
I’m hyped! More preachy, social justice tracks would make me happy. More J Cole proudction and trap beats would be great! I also hope he continues on the path of being boring. On a serious note, when looking at both Cole and Kendrick, both got worse, not better, as time went on. Of you go in reverse, their albums get better and better lol. Kendrick was best between 2009 and 2013. Cole was best between 2007 and 2011. Cole started making music more for females, and got boring in general… When he used to be kinda gangsta. Kendrick went form a chill, mono tone kind of rapper, with 90s flow like old-school Bad, mixed with Wayne… Now his voice is always high pitched, whiny, and radio sounding. I remember when we used to call Kendrick the best outta the west since Tupac… Well, I retract that statement at this point. Kendrick fits better with Drake at this point than Tupac. Sorry to sound like such a hater… I’m just a very dissapointed fan, who was all about these two as they came to stardom… And as soon as they found it, they began to make pop rap, and cater to the female crowds. That’s why rappers that stay underground tend to make the best hip-hop.
I disagree. I wouldn’t say their new music is worse, it’s just different. What do you expect? They can’t make the same kind of music forever. They have to evolve and try new things if they want to stay relevant. Friday Night Lights and GKMC are my favorite projects from them, but I like the new shit too. I’m just happy that these dudes are still putting out half decent music and are still relevant after 10 years on the game.
I feel you man… It’s just not my style. Kendrick and Cole started off and came to stardom by emulating the legends to some degree. Then, they took their own route… And I’m not as much of a fan of where they both have come to. They both have started to sound like all of the other rappers around today… And no, I’m not talking about future and Lil pump haha. Put it this way… Kendricks style in 2018 is more in tune with new school sounds and flows… section .80 was more in tune with someone from the 90s. I’d say sane goes for old J Cole. I used to like the beats they chose… I think part of it is that Cole and Kendrick use in house producers, where is the superstar rapper legends used to use people like The Neptune’s, Scott Storch, Dr Dre, DJ Premier, Timbaland, Focus, Alchemist, etc… And now it’s mostly in house. I can’t beleive we haven’t heard Kendrick over any Dr Dre productions yet.. .. Again, no hate from me. They just don’t make what I like these days… Put it this way… Kendrick’s hits now were DNA and Humble…. Years ago, it was more like The Recipe and ADHD. Very, very different. DNA and Humble are total club/radio songs. ADHD and the Recipe wouldn’t be played at the club. It’s thinking hip-hop.
Dna is radio?
So swimming pools wasn’t a radio/ club song or the song he had with Drake??? Just STFU u don’t know what your talking about bout and you don’t understand the evolution of a true artist…think about how unsuccessful artist are who stay the same there is a long list of 90s rappers who are irrelevant today cause they couldn’t evovle , you don’t know what I’m talking about and you don’t understand music
Usually evolution goes forward, not backwards. People like you are annoying as hell. “real artists” blah blah blah. What’s a fake artist then? Legends don’t need to change. JayZ would still sound amazing over Reasonable Doubt beats. Everyone still wants to hear Nas on Illmatic beats… People still wanna hear Dr Dre make gangster rap. I guess Jay-Z going from that style to making songs with Beyonce is evolution. And Nas rapping over trap beats is evolution.
A fake artist is someone who isnt truly talented and gifted someone who can only make one type of music or talk about the same stuff, someone who only makes music cause he sees everyone else doing it…. If Jay z still made a bunch of reasonable doubts people would say all he raps about is drugs and all his music sounds the same he would never make it to the level he is at now… You the type a person who stays stagnant and will never go anywhere in life… You like vegetable rap…I’m good off that, Jay z has multiple classics cause he evolved… I don’t wanna hear a rapper rap about shit he use to do all the time people grow if you still rapping like your in the 90s still on the block your lame cause your lying to yourself and the people …I don’t wanna hear Nas make another illmatic … I rather hear him talk about current stuff and work with producers who are active in the music business.. you have no real knowledge of being a real artist cause your not one that’s why your little brain don’t understand
See, that’s what’s wrong with people like you. All you do is insult people who have different tastes. I didn’t insult you once, I just talked about how Kendrick and J Cole have gotten more and more boring, and more and more for the ladies. Sorry if I deeply offended you or something lol.
Yeah but at the same time you sit on your computer and insult the artist for growing…I’m backing the artist cause I know true talent when I see it.. people who want artist to stay stagnant with there craft and continue to sound the same only want the artist to hold themselves back from being there current self, how can you be inspired when you only listen to an artist rap and sound the same all the time, your talent is tested when time goes on you have to reinvent yourself to match the current climate you have to relate to the times or your fanbase will never grow and eventually will die off..and you can do that without selling out, there’s always newer versions of sounds from the past just implement your atmosphere into the sound
BTW did you even listen to Nas last album…u talking bout him on trap beats?? Just shut up .. Jay z did a album wit r Kelly too about 20 years ago so I wouldn’t say he was trying to evolve , he just working with another talented artist who happens to be his wife… If you actually listened to his last solo album 444 you would see the whole picture but all you do is type with no real logic or thought into what your saying
Gimmick loving, anti intellectual, want to love whatever white pop audiences love dudes start commenting 5, 4, 3, 2….
Yes, because anyone who doesn’t care for J Cole music must be an anti intellectual white person who listens to pop music… People like you are so annoying. Who honestly cares about what other people’s tastes are?
More bland music from the most overrated rapper of all time. KOD was about drugs being bad like this nigg a discovered something new and yall thought it was woke lmao
