Drake Dedicates ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ To Late Fashion Icon Virgil Abloh

Drake elated OVO Music fans when he announced a surprise album called Honestly, Nevermind would drop at midnight ET on Friday (June 17). Right on schedule, the 14-track project and follow-up to 2021’s Certified Lover Boy arrived on all digital streaming platforms with a lone feature from 21 Savage on the album closer.

But the album also came with a special dedication to late fashion icon Virgil Abloh, who passed away last November. Tucked away neatly at the top of the Apple Music page, Drake’s dedication was coupled with the lyrics to the title track. He wrote at the end, “DEDICATED TO OUR BROTHER V.”

I let my humbleness turn to numbness at times letting time go by knowing I got the endurance to catch it another time
I work with every breath in my body cause it’s the work not air that makes me feel alive
That’s some real detrimental shit but that’s that shit my perfectionist mind doesn’t really mind because no one knows whats on my mind when I go to sleep at 9 & wake up at 5 – unless I say it in rhyme
I can’t remember the last time someone put they phone down, looked me in the eyes and asked my current insight on the times
But I remember every single time someone shined a light in my eyes
I purposely try to forget what went on between some ppl and I because I know I’m not a forgiving guy even when I try
My urge for revenge wins the game against my good guy inside every single fckn time
I got plans I can’t talk about with more than like 4 guys because the last time I shared em with someone on the outside…well that’s another story for another night
I was tryna get thru that statement to get to saying I’m not @ a time in my life where pats on the shoulder help get me by
I’ll take loyalty over an oh my & emoji fire
I know if it was a dark night where all the odds were against my side & my skill went to whoever took my life they’d done me off with a big smile & maybe evn post it for some likes
I know everyone that tells me they love me doesn’t love me all the time especially when im doing better than alright & they have to watch it from whatever point they at in their life
    I got here being realistic
I didn’t get here being blind
I know whats what and especially what and who is by my side
    Honestly…Nevermind.

    1. i am really pissed off homey. bring on the bad reviews. this drake homey can make this music off a new laptop computer i mean i don’t like drake too overrated you know what i’m saying. i feel poor and cheated.

      1. Been told y’all that he’s a corporate plant. He only released this album to screw over and screw up the other artist’s release date/sales numbers. Drake mentally checked out after Take Care and hasn’t gave AF since. His albums are like eating the Taco Bell 5 dollar box after a hangover, you know the shit is going to get worse.

        1. the thing that gets me is this. if you are going to be in this game rhyming raps you do so honestly. so that means you make your money honestly. you don’t shit on one person all the time and gain street credibility and a respectful amount of money at someone else’s expense. so this is like at a corporate level i am talking the industry homeys you know. when people say inspiration is success it means little without the money to back it up especially if you hurting. that’s all i am going to say about that i am referring to certified lover boy. i have never met drake i have not been to any of his shows i have never been to any listening parties any release parties any media lunches and to be honest i don’t really have a desire to. drake is a man who can kill you basically every rapper out there is a wolf in sheeps clothing you could agree. shits fucked up.

    2. “That’s The Gayest Shit I’ve Ever Heard.”

    3. That electronic music, dance shit ain’t for me, but I appreciate the Gangsta Blac sample on the last track. If you were in Memphis in the 90s, you know who that is. Playa Fly sample in there too, imo the GOAT Memphis rapper from that era who let his demons bring him down after his split from Three Six Mafia. He was super talented. I salute Drake for keeping people’s names like that alive and even letting some who never heard of them know who it is.

      1. I’m tired of lame modern rappers like drake sampling rappers like Fly and Blac, drake’s fans don’t deserve to hear their music. They only are doing it because it’s “cool” now, 5-10 years ago they didn’t care. All it will do is give drake’s fans a larger ego because they think they know underground. But if you really knew underground and liked those kind of rappers you wouldn’t need to listen to drake ever again.

        1. That’s literally how it works my man. You know how many soul artists I discovered in the 90s because rappers sampled them? He was back and forth to Memphis with his Pops, so that’s definitely a good look of putting a spot light on them all these years later, and I bet they appreciate it because Three Six gets all of the credit for that sound that other dudes like Fly, Blac, Skinny Pimp, Playa G, and a million other underground dudes helped to make pop locally before Three Six took it mainstream and damn near every rapper in the game is eating off that sound today. Go look at how many Three Six songs get sampled in rap. Those dudes are the roots of the tree. If you love hip hop, good and bad, you have to salute him for doing that.

    4. This is what happens when rappers start making too much money and having corporate folks in your ear telling YOU what’s hot. It ain’t! And look at several other very hot rappers who went too watered down commercial. When the rich are your friends and advisors, that’s when your shit starts to suck. It’s missing the grind, the hustle, the truth, the struggle which motivated you to make good music in the first place! Drake is too rich and too pampered now. We are about to lose our democracy and where is your voice for our community that put you where you are? Wake the fuck up! Believing the bullshit corp execs are telling you which reflects where this album went – right into the trash. Jimmy Cooke (feat 21 Savage) is the only exception on this album.

      1. That’s with anything though. Rap is a young man’s game. You can’t re-create that young energy. The problem is that the young artists today that could be giving us that hot shit aren’t getting spotlighted and trash is being put on. For where he is in his career, Drake should take this lane and make more pop songs. He ain’t a 20 something year old anymore. Dude’s damn near 40. I hate when I hear dudes still rapping or making songs like they are at the beginning of their career. Even if people age out and I stop fucking with their music, which I definitely don’t fuck with much of Drake’s shit since NWTS, it is what it is because I will definitely hear it in the music that what he’s rapping or making songs about don’t fit where he’s at in life and won’t fuck with it.
