Grammy Award-winning producer and frequent Dr. Dre collaborator Fredwreck sparked collaboration rumors on Tuesday (April 27) when he posted an old photo of Kendrick Lamar, Dre and Eminem with their arms around each other on Twitter.
He simply captioned the photo, “Beats n Rhymes #shady #aftermath,” suggesting Dre could be the producer and K. Dot and Slim Shady could be the MCs on a top secret project.
On Saturday (May 1), Dr. Dre and Kendrick Lamar — who’ve collaborated on songs such as the 2012 good kid, m. A.A.d city track “The Recipe” — both became trending Twitter topics as speculation about the collaboration reached a fever pitch.
As one Twitter user wrote, “So we’re getting a Dr. Dre album with possible Kendrick Lamar & Eminem on the same track ???? Say ain’t so.”
Kendrick Lamar pandemonium was already palpable on social media after Top Dawg Entertainment teased a cryptic release date last week.
On Wednesday (April 28), Top Dawg’s official account fired off a tweet that read, “THE WAIT IS OVAH!!!! #TDE.” The post came with an animated GIF of what looked like a computer booting up and the date “5/7/21” at the end.
Of course, it’s been over four years since Kendrick unleashed his Pulitzer Prize-winning album DAMN. and fans are more than ready for a follow-up.
But TDE has several other artists on their roster who could be dropping as well, including Isaiah Rashad, SZA or REASON. Like the rest of the Hip Hop community, Kendrick fans will have to wait until Friday (May 7) to find out.
Meanwhile, chatter surrounding Dr. Dre’s long-awaited Detox album has also ramped up in recent months with actor/MC Page Kennedy tweeting last November, “This Dr. Dre album sounding [fire]. Hope y’all get to hear.”
When pressed for more information, he revealed Eminem would be appearing on the project as well. Eminem and Kendrick Lamar first joined forces on the track “Love Game” off Shady’s 2013 album The Marshall Mathers LP 2, so another collaboration wouldn’t be too far-fetched.
Ehh depends. Last joint Em had kendrick get on, for i think mmlp2 was just wack as fuck. I expect 2 greats to make better music than that lame shit. Kendricks in good enough standing to tell em to keep the corny shit away from their collabs i hope
Yeah. I feel the same way. It’s like they were trying to create an old school story track with modern day (at the time) lyricism, hilarious situations and what not, but I’d not expect “2 greats” trading on what would ideally fit with an underground scene, with more leg room to come up with such a track.
You guys are crazy! “Love Game” was super fire! I swear you guys either just don’t know how to break down bars or you go into it already thinking you’re not going to like it! Em is the greatest rapper to ever live period. He’s not my favorite Nas is but his bars and schemes and just about everything else is unmatched my anyone! All his albums are fire, some are more fire then others but they’re all quality projects. Especially when compared to all the trash that is being praised these days like Lil Baby & such….
I couldn’t agree more. You are the smartest one on this forum.
Something tells me this is going to be another radio pop track. Nowadays it’s called we wanna do something new and refreshing!
Yeah ok.. pop pop pop pop!
At this point i dont expect anything good from Em, he should have retired long time ago… and im saying this from the perspective of a real fan whos have every deluxe edition etc. He has become corny, repetitive, monotonous, and ultimately … TRASH. It hurts but is true.
Kamikaze is great IMO
Expectations are too high.
Dude, there’s always that one hater fan/ not real artist out there and that’s you. You wouldn’t talk that shit if you were in the same room as M and dr. Dre. STFU!!!! It’s not like you’re trying to make a living by rapping or doing anything with music are you dick head?
Em is at the top of his game. The GOAT.
A K dot, slim shady, and Dr. Dre song would be WILD. But, it can go either way. Eminem recently has been a little corny and repetitive with fast rap (he overused it). Kendrick has set the bar high (will the expectations be exceeded?). And does Dre still have it? (prob I mean its dre). I hope that this collab is real and hope that everyone does their part.
Kendrick set the bar high? You either are very young, or have always have low standards, because kendrick is alright, but the bar is definetly not him. So many now a days are better than kendrick. Raise your expectations.
??? Nice one. No one nowadays touches Kendrick on sheer artistry. You can however make a case for the old school.
Do you even listen to rap…?
So you saying his latest album side B is corny?
Eminem matured. He almost died talking about killing his wife. It’s okay to mature up and not sound violent like his old self.
Kendrick already eff’d up the song fuck it
