DMX’s Family Issues Statement As He Remains On Life Support In Critical Condition

Despite the countless prayers and well wishes pouring in for Earl “DMX” Simmons, doctors reportedly aren’t so optimistic he’ll bounce back.

DMX — who dominated Hip Hop in the late ’90s/early 2000s — was rushed to a local hospital in White Plains, New York on Friday night (April 2) after suffering a reported drug overdose, which triggered a heart attack.

According to the latest update from TMZ, a family member of the Ruff Ryders luminary said paramedics attempted to resuscitate the 50-year-old artist for over 30 minutes once they arrived on the scene. The prolonged oxygen deprivation severely impacted the veteran rapper’s brain and he’s currently on life support in critical condition.

The family member reported, “It’s not looking good.” Subsequently, his children are flying in to White Plains to be by his side.

Following the update, DMX’s family wanted to squash the egregious rumor the rapper had passed away after a #RIPDMX hashtag had dominated Twitter for most of Saturday (April 3).

“We are issuing this statement to combat all the false and misleading reports that are circulating on social media,” the statement read. “Last night Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home. At this time he remains in ICU in critical condition. Earl has been a warrior his entire life. This situation represents yet another road he must cross.

“The Simmons Family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support and prayers for Earl. Earl is someone whose life and music has been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world. It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need.”

It was no secret DMX has struggled with substance abuse issues throughout his life. After serving roughly one year at the Gilmer Federal Correctional Institution for tax evasion, the ‘X Gon Give It To Ya’ legend checked himself into rehab in October 2019.

During a recent appearance on REVOLT’s Drink Champs, DMX enthusiastically talked about his forthcoming album, which features The LOX, Griselda, the late Pop Smoke, Alicia Keys, U2’s Bono, Snoop Dogg and more.

Eminem, Ja Rule, LL COOL J, Missy Elliott & More Rally Around DMX Following Reported Drug Overdose

Hip Hop has come out in full force to offer their support to DMX — from Snoop Dogg and Ice-T to Missy Elliott and Eminem. HipHopDX continues to send our love and support to DMX and his family.

    1. He will be the 1st rap icon I’ve witnessed dying in my lifetime that will have an impact on me. I’m 35 so I was alive when Biggie and 2Pac died but I wasn’t old enough to be affected. DMX on the other hand is in the soundtrack to my formative years. I still remember remember impact Damian and The Omen had on me along with enough other song names to fill up a page. Damn I don’t get bothered by celeb deaths that much but I think I’ll feel this one a bit.

        1. He was just a hook guy. Good in small doses.. even the whole 213 thing with Warren G was toi much of him tbh.

          1. Straight up disagree! Just read through Lord give me a sign, but there are countless other songs that show great context for the entire song!

    2. I hope he pulls through. He put it down. If it wasnt for DMX none of these people would be riding motorcycles and dirt bikes around the hood. Ruff Ryders had a huge influence on hip hop culture.

      1. Hate to break it to you: there is no happy ending after 30 minutes of resuscitation…just a lifetime in bed or a wheelchair with no real conscience.

    3. Now i feel bad for Watching DMX drink his ass off on drink champs but i know what he wanted to do was come off normal. Smh damn, im going to miss him almost more then any other rapper that has past. Im praying he pulls through but if he doesnt im praying for his family as well. DOUBLE R FOREVER.

      1. O shit, i watched it back and i didnt see any drinks around him. My bad for talking shit that was a mistake. Much love to the family man i wish i could delete the original comment. Peace & love ya’ll. DOUBLE R forever!

      2. Dumb that’s a ruff ryders bike group that’s still active and X n swizz, lox all of them don’t even rep that chit any more, other than that “double r forever” bs

    4. might be a relapse gone horribly wrong. Whatever is best for X. who knows what his current condition is. this sucks

    5. Um, mods, why you deleting my posts saying I went through this with my father and there is actually no hope getting the old DMX back? He‘d be severely brain damaged. That’s a fact now

      1. Cause nobody gives a fuck about your morbid bitch ass views cause you lost your daddy just cause you lost your dad dont mean you need to go around talking like a dumb dick to other people about theirs god damn people like you are stupid as fuck

    6. Losing X would be a pill too bitter to swallow. I keep holding out on that glimmer of hope that he’ll survive somehow. If prayers count for anything, we hope the heavens will be gracious towards us by bringing him back. Love to hi family and anyone deeply affected by this tragedy.

      1. Allegdly while he was in coma his brain didn’t get oxygen for 30 seconds… which means that even if he recovers from his OD he’d probably lose half of his motricity… I don’t know which one is the worst: being half in a vegetative state or passing away… X left a huge fingerprint in this rap ish. He’s definitley one of the greatest who ever touched a mic. Personaly, I ranked him before pac and biggie

      2. The Lord works in mysterious ways is what X would tell us! The Lord gives obstacles so we can feel what it feels like to overcome. All things are possible through Christ who strengthens us so let’s keep praying !!

    7. I’m gutted I am a massive DMX fan been pumping his music since I was 17 brought its Dark and Hell Is Hot not long after it dropped X has had it hard in life and people are quick to judge not me we are all human. I love his music he is one of my favourite rappers I have been praying DMX pulls through my prayers thoughts are with his family keep fighting DMX.

    8. We love DMX so much because he stayed the same and relatable as an artist. He didn’t allow fame, fortune, or success to change his persona. However, fame and fortune did exacerbate DMX’s darkest demons. He is one of the greatest artists of our time and a true legend. Get at me dog is still my all time favorite DMX track.

    9. I think about what a dwag didn’t have, a dwag told a joke and the chicken didn’t laugh – DMX

    10. IMO, if you were the best/hottest rapper for multiple years in a row, you get to be considered in the greatest of all time conversation. Do I think DMX was the best rapper of all time? No. However, the 1st 3 albums are straight classics that remind me of how Em went right after him. In fact their careers are fairly similar with dropping heat and then some question marks. Always reminds me of Jay-Z’s smartest business move ever – not joining Murder Inc for a full album with Ja and X. Look back at it. DMX would have been for sure your #1 guy with Ja and Jay competing for second at that time. Praying for a recovery for Dark Man X.

    11. You really should have used all caps for dominated. If he didn’t let drugs get the best of him, X would be on JayZ’s pedestal as the king of NYC/rapgame in general
