DJ Paul Reveals Why Bone Thugs-N-Harmony & Three 6 Mafia Verzuz Battle Got Shelved

DJ Paul and Krayzie Bone were scheduled to represent their respective groups in an Instagram Live battle in April, but the virtual event never happened. In an interview with HNHH, Paul explained how the independently organized matchup between Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Three 6 Mafia didn’t materialize after Verzuz intervened.

“I was talking to [Verzuz] and they kept telling me they was gonna do it, man,” he said. “Then, they just ended up changin’ they mind. It’s like, I don’t know why they came in just to stop our thing and then didn’t wanna do it. But whatever, I still got love for Swizz [Beatz] and Timbaland. Love you guys to death.”

The Bone Thugs and Three 6 Mafia battle was scheduled to take place on April 30. But according to Paul, Swizz reached out to Krayzie less than an hour before it was going to begin and made the Ohio-bred rapper reconsider.

“It was finna happen,” Paul recalled. “Like 30 minutes. Literally 30-35 minutes, literally 35 minutes before we went live, Swizz’s people called Krayzie Bone and they was like, ‘We gon’ do it on Verzuz, so don’t do it.’ And I was like, ‘Look dude, we still need to do it, man.’ I was like, ‘I don’t know— when is the Verzuz gon’ happen? Like, we still need to do it.'”

He continued, “I guess Krayzie didn’t wanna do— he’d rather do the Verzuz than ours. He just kinda backed off and stopped picking up his phone. And I was like ‘OK.’ And I just left it alone. And then next thing I know, he tweeted and said he didn’t wanna do it at all because of the temperature of what was going on in the world. Verzuz kept moving on and everything else kept going. I was like, ‘Alright, I kind saw this coming and I tried to tell you, but whatever.”

Perhaps Swizz can make it right in Verzuz Season 2, which starts on November 19. The popular battle series will return with an Atlanta-centric showdown between T.I. and Jeezy.

    1. Verzuz was never going to do it especially after Krayzie and Paul were about to do it on their own, using seperate platform from verzuz. Swizz step in only to disrupt what they were about to do because it wasn’t being done on the verzuz platform. I think Kray realized that over time Paul probably hasn’t yet. Verzuz is lame to imo. I don’t want to see 3-6 and Bone do one. I would rather see more collabs from Paul and Kray or even a fully produced Krayzie album or Ep by Paul.

      1. The industry never really rocked with Bone Thugs n harmony or 3-6 mafia, but both have
really strong fan bases. I watch a few verzuz battles and they were horrible. Bone thugs and three 6 are 2 of my favorite rap groups. But I wouldn’t watch or be interested in a verzuz from them or any more verzuz at all.

          1. Rappers, producers, executives, labels. When I say the industry I mean the people within the business, not fans. But they both have solid, big, loyal fan base especially Bone thugs the only other rap group fan base that would even rival theirs is Wu and that’s it. I always thought it was because of their style and where they came from. Back in the 80’s, 90’s, early 00’s they open you with welcome arms if you were from Cali, Ny, ATL, miami, but coming from a place like Cleveland and Memphis you automatically get the side shoulder and eye rolls. 3-6 and Bone Thugs n Harmony had to earn it even more so then groups and rappers that are from were most of the major labels are actually located. They both outlasted the majority of groups from their era

            1. Bone Thugs we’re going multi-platinum and winning awards back in the day and we’re discovered by Eazy-E from Cali. So that kinda disputes your argument there. For Three 6, they started getting mainstream notice in the late 90s, early 2000s.

            2. The ppl made them platinum not the industry. Bone especially always seemed like outsiders which is why these young boys stay disrespecting

            3. I would say Bone gets a lot of respect from younger crowd rappers maybe not the newest wave because Bone wasn’t the era they grew up on but I’ve heard Gibbs, K.Dot, Flo rida, nelly, Z-Ro, Rittz, Dej Loaf, Pusha T, Kevin Gates, Dizzy Wright, Game, Wiz, Asap mob and many others show BTNH major love or say their were influenced by them.

            4. That’s back when fans had to buy your albums for them to go platinum. They’ve always had the fans. They dropped 10 total platinum albums including group and solo’s through the 94-99. They sold records and awards because of fans. By the time they sign with Eazy E his popularity was diminished. They help bring him a new wave of energy and popularity. Also by the time they sign with Eazy they were treating Eazy like he was done and had completely falling off.

      2. Sounds about right….they should’ve did their own thing without verzuz. Everything that was going on in the world didn’t stop anyone else from doing it…. that sounded like an excuse.

    2. I didn’t mind Kray saying let’s pause bc of all the riots and things but they should’ve never reschedule without Swizz giving a date. Since it was set for a Thursday they should’ve told Swizz announce it for Saturday or we going with our move.

    3. F a vs. kray need to drop the RnB album the weed album we heard snippets of em and sounds dope not sure what he waitin on.
