De La Soul details Nas’ reaction to And The Anonymous Nobody during an interview with Rolling Stone. 

While working on the forthcoming And The Anonymous Nobody, their Kickstarter-funded album, Posdnous, Dave Jolicoeur and Maseo realized that they should remain true to their own artistic vision.

“I think we’re comfortable in just feeling that we don’t fit. … I think sometimes, the object that is all the way over there,” Posdnous says as he throws his cellphone across the table. “You almost want to pay more attention, because the object’s here. Everyone’s there. It’s funny… We even at one point let Nas hear a bunch of tracks. And it was just dope how he was like, ‘Yo man, this is like some avant-garde shit.’”

De La Soul is set to release And The Anonymous Nobody on its own AOI label. Even though the group has been making music since the 1980s and released its first album, the acclaimed 3 Feet High and Rising, in 1989, the group isn’t chasing the success of that project, which remains its best-selling collection.

“I don’t want to sit here and say it’s another 3 Feet High and Rising,” Posdnous says of And The Anonymous Nobody. “I would never say that. But that element of not knowing what you’re doing, like, it felt like 3 Feet High and Rising. Like, we walked in, we didn’t know the rules.”
