Danny Brown and Logic recently linked up for a conversation, during which they talked about negotiating the challenges of hitting a dead end in the creative process.

During an episode of the Danny Brown Show that aired on Tuesday (July 4), the two MCs had a chat about steadily writing and releasing content, and dealing with writer’s block along the way.

“Where’s the creative energy coming from?” Danny asked regarding Logic’s prolific output. “I just can’t f-ckin rap that much, man. Maybe I’m getting that age, that’s what it is. But no, I was like that even when I was younger.”

In response, the Maryland spitter said: “I don’t think it’s an age thing. As creatives, we all work differently, you know what I mean? I got this shit that’s just pent up in me, y’know, like I write novels, I write movies, I write albums, I have fun, I do, y’know, whatever.”

He then recalled an interview in which an author (whose name he couldn’t remember) was asked how to overcome writer’s block, to which his response was, “just write.”

Agreeing with the advice, Danny added: “When you writing about your life, there ain’t no writer’s block. If you telling the truth, it ain’t no writer’s block.

“And that’s what I learned — when you trying to be cool and trying to make up bars and trying to do shit, yeah, you going to have writer’s block ’cause shit gon’ get dry, but if you just talkin’ about what you got going on in your life, no matter what, you never gonna have writer’s block.”

A few months back, Danny Brown underwent rehabilitation for substance abuse and he even opened up about his “humbling” experience after his return.

In March, the Atrocity Exhibition rapper announced that he was checking into rehab after drunkenly bashing his label Warp Records on his podcast. In his first episode back since getting out of rehab, he said he was forever changed by the experience and was excited to get back to work.

“I will say, man, like being in treatment and all that shit, the one thing it did do was it humbled the fuck out of me,” he admitted. “It made me real fucking, just showed a lot of gratitude.

“I got a cool-ass life, man…’cause a lot of these muthafuckas that’s in there, you know, they had drinking problems, drug problems and that shit. They gotta go back to work.”

He continued: “They gotta go work a real regular 9 to 5. I had one of the best jobs in the fucking world, man, so I was taking a lot of shit for granted. I will say that I’m back. Ya boy is back!”
