Boi-1da Thinks Eminem Is Underrated As Producer: ‘He Has Gems’

Eminem is already heralded as one of Hip Hop’s greatest artists of all time. The diamond-selling MC has broken numerous records throughout the course of his illustrious career and is consistently setting new ones.

His 2002 single “Lose Yourself,” for example, just surpassed one billion plays on Spotify — and that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

But producer Boi-1da thinks Slim Shady is severely underrated as a producer. On Thursday (November 5), the veteran beatsmith shared a TJAYwitter post that read, “Eminem doesn’t get enough credit as a producer, he has gems.”

When a fan noted Eminem produced “On Fire” by Lloyd Banks, “Moment Of Clarity” by JAY-Z, “Hennessy” by 2Pac and Obie Trice as well, Boi-1da replied, “Warrior Pt. 2 & Till the End” followed by a puking emoji.

The Detroit-bred “rap god” has producer credits on songs such as D12’s “Purple Pills” and 50 Cent’s “Many Men (Wish Death).” He’s also produced or co-produced many of his own songs, including “Superman,” “Guilty Conscience” and “Cleanin’ Out My Closet.”

Meanwhile, Boi-1da has crafted several beats for Slim Shady himself, including the Recovery tracks “Not Afraid” and “Seduction” and the Kamikaze cut “Lucky You” featuring Joyner Lucas. The 34-year-old producer is also an in-house producer for Drake’s OVO Sound label and has worked with Drake, Rihanna, JAY-Z, Nicki Minaj, Nas, and Kendrick Lamar, among others.

    1. I agree. I’m not a huge Eminem fan, I think he’s a dope MC with mediocre albums. But I’ve always thought the beats he made for himself and others were dope. The drums and a little clunky but the strings are always dope. They’re all keyboard, so they’re a little stiff and gloomy but it fits his style.

    2. He does have some gems, but he usually chooses the wackest beats for his albums. The beats on Music to be murdered by were actually pretty good tho, except 3. That song with young MA, that beat was wack af! And the other one with black thought, “yah yah”, the beat was cool but that guitar riff was annoying, ruined the song. And Godzilla, I wasn’t feeling that beat. The rest were dope, especially that “Darkness” beat, Royce went hard on that one!!

    3. Versatility is something you can’t put a price on. Finding a lyricist rapper/producer is the same as finding a gold mine. Eminem, Kanye West and J Cole fit the bill easily. With Em, the list speaks for itself. A few tracks that come to mind are as follows: (1) Purple pills – D12 (2) My name is – Eminem (3) Patiently waiting – 50 Cent (4) Moment of Clarity. – Jay-Z (5) Sing for the Moment – Eminem (6) Say goodbye to Hollywood – Eminem (7) 8 miles and runnin – Jay-Z, Freeway (8) You don’t know – Eminem (9) On fire – Lloyd Banks (10) Smack that – Akon.

    4. He always has that boing boing noise in his beats, not much versatility. Some of his beats are ok but they all have that goofy sound.

    5. Honestly every beat Eminem ever made or rapped on is extremely wack and mediocre.. he’s a disgusting old dope fiend pervert and most rap fans that I know.. hate him..

    6. People call Eminem a wack producer cause he fucked up with that Pac album Loyal to the Game, but the shit he produced on Resurrection is flames.

    7. Em is top 5 MC but let’s be honest, he was a HORRIBLE producer! All his beats sounded the same. All robotic and flat sounding beats with zero feel.

    8. Outkast, they produced more than half of their music, nobody gives them credit, they gotta be the most slept on, 2nd would be DJ Toomp? The only producer in history to kill hip hop and shake yo booty music.
