Beyoncé has responded to the killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile by police with a call to action for her fans.
In an Instagram post to her 77 million followers that linked to a full statement on her website, she urges readers to take action by contacting politicians and legislators to demand “social and judicial changes.” The website provides links to contact congress, as well as to voice protest with legislators in Louisiana and Minnesota, the states where the men were killed this week.
The message in the post is one of unity that calls on all people to come together to rally against injustice and the marginalization of people of color. “This is a human fight,” she writes in the all-caps post. “No matter your race, gender or sexual orientation. This is a fight for anyone who feels marginalized, who is struggling for freedom and human rights.”
The 34-year-old singer has been a powerful voice in the Black Lives Matter movement, using pro-black imagery in her videos and live performances. She was pictured with the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice and Michael Brown for a recent video shoot.
The Black Panther-inspired outfits she and her dancers wore during the Super Bowl half-time show caused controversy last February, with critics speaking out against what they saw as an anti-police message. She clarifies in her post that her message is “not a plea to all police officers but toward any human being who fails to value life.”

They then tell him if he doesn’t comply, They will shoot Him with a taser. He still doesn’t comply, so they shoot him with the taser. Said HUGE black guy doesn’t go down from the taser, so one officer tackles him to the ground. The HUGE black guy is reaching Around, struggling to get back up to his feet with two cops on top of him. They then tell him to stop resisting and put a gun to his head. One officer realizes he has a gun on him. He still doesn’t stop resisting arrest and doesn’t let the police cuff him, while he is struggling and has a gun on him. They then shoot him repeatedly until he stops struggling. After the incident we find out the black guy in the red t-shirt is a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and there also is a video showing the suspect not complying, not going down to a taser and struggling and resisting even after he is on the ground and he has a gun to his head. After the fact, we all find out he was a CONVICTED FELON in possession of a FIREARM which is a FELONY. He was going to prison for a long while if arrested, hence the resistance. There you have it.
